Sci Fi's "Sanctuary" a true Web-to-TV pioneer

 19 November 2008:  LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - A milestone was reached last week in the crossover from Internet to TV when Sci Fi Channel gave an early second-season pickup to "Sanctuary," making it the first TV show based on an online series to accomplish the feat.

With YouTube making it easy for anyone with a video camera to get noticed, the Web was anointed as the perfect breeding ground for TV talent. But crossing that talent (and their product) over to TV has proved tricky.

There has been a slew of deals, including CBS lining up "Sex and the City" creator Darren Star to adapt the hit online series "We Need Girlfriends" as a TV series, and NBC pacting with viral video stars Luke Barats and Joe Bereta. But not much has come of any of them.

A lot has been made of the quick demise of "quarterlife," whose made-for-Web episodes were stitched together into hourlong TV episodes that briefly aired on NBC. Read more over at The Happy Place Forums

Supernatural: Off TEN's Sked For The Silly Season

19 November 2008: Flicking through the local telly book (<< those folks supply it) yesterday we noted Supernatural is about to go missing, we 'phoned the TEN Network this morning searching for answers, they told us it has been removed for the silly season, y'know that time of the year when the unworkable, flawed and free tv network owned AusTam ratings system tells us we don't watch the box during the Christian Festive season.

One wonders what the peoples of other Faiths think when the same respect is not shown to their Festive seasons

The Aussie "we don't watch the box" period starts in November and finishes sometime late January or early February. Makes one wonder why folks folk out big bucks for high Definition TV sets. As an aside The CW is also removing it from the sked over there in them there United States too fro 20NOV to 29JAN09

Luckily, there's more than one way to skin a Supernatural cat, there are two episodes outsatnding and in the mix for viewing, they are;

S409 I Know What You Did Last Summer: SAM AND DEAN MEET ANNA, A GIRL WHO CAN HEAR THE ANGELS Ruby (guest star Genevieve Cortese) tells Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) that a powerful demon named Alastair (guest star Mark Rolston) is searching for a girl named Anna (guest star Julie McNiven) who can hear the angels' conversations. The three set out to find Anna but once they do, Alastair attacks them and Ruby escapes with the girl. Believing they were set up, Dean lashes out at Sam for trusting Ruby, so Sam tells him what happened during those months Dean was in Hell and how Ruby saved his life. Castiel (guest star Misha Collins) and Uriel (guest star Robert Wisdom) return and demand to be taken to Anna but not for the reason Dean thinks, and;

410 Angels and Demons: ANGELS VS DEMONS Anna remembers her past and Sam and Dean finally understand why Castiel and Uriel want her dead. However, they disagree with the angels' orders and try to help Anna restore an important part of her past so she can be saved. Meanwhile, Alastair and his demons continue to close in on Anna and the brothers

"Chris Judge: It’s always crazy down there. The fan enthusiasm and excitement level is wonderful. It’s just a great atmosphere there. We went down to the MGM booth to sign. I was actually a minute or two late and I was wondering who this huge line was for. I thought it was for Iron Man or something and it was actually for us. It’s still quite overwhelming.

"Is it like one big family reunion when you all get back together?

Oh definitely. I see Ben Browder all the time because our kids go to school together, and he teaches the little league my son plays in. I probably see Ben more than anyone. Michael Shanks and I get together whenever we are both in Vancouver at the same time. It’s great. We never lose touch. It didn’t end because the show ended."

So, how does Lethbridge-Stewart pop up in Sarah Jane’s world again?

“Well, Sarah Jane needs some help, yes. She comes to see me… and when she tells me where she wants to go, my face falls. But we manage!” Nick laughs heartily. “We have a lovely moment. According to the producer, it works very well when Sarah comes into the room, and we’re meeting again. Lis has a line, ‘I’m going to see an old friend about this,’ and the next shot is her coming into my house...”

David Tennant leaving Dr Who

30 October 2008: David Tennant has announced that he will leave the award winning BBC One drama Doctor Who when he has completed the filming of four special episodes which will be screened in 2009 and early in 2010.

David Tennant first appeared as The Doctor in 2005 and has gone on to star in three series and three Christmas specials as the tenth incarnation of the Time Lord.

The BBC has confirmed that David will continue to play The Doctor in the four specials that will make up the 2009 series before a new Doctor takes over for Series 5.

Tennant will also star in the Doctor Who Christmas special, titled The Next Doctor, this year.

David Tennant comments: "I've had the most brilliant, bewildering and life changing time working on Doctor Who.

"I have loved every day of it.. It would be very easy to cling on to the Tardis console forever and I fear that if I don't take a deep breath and make the decision to move on now, then I simply never will. You would be prising the Tardis key out of my cold dead hand.

"This show has been so special to me, I don't want to outstay my welcome.

"This is all a long way off, of course. I'm not quitting, I'm back in Cardiff in January to film four special episodes which will take Doctor Who all the way through 2009.

"I'm still the Doctor all next year but when the time finally comes I'll be honoured to hand on the best job in the world to the next lucky git – whoever that may be.

"I'd always thought the time to leave would be in conjunction with Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner who have been such a huge part of it all for me.

"Steven Moffat is the most brilliant and exciting writer, the only possible successor to Russell and it was sorely tempting to be part of his amazing new plans for the show. I will be there, glued to my TV when his stories begin in 2010.

"I feel very privileged to have been part of this incredible phenomenon, and whilst I'm looking forward to new challenges I know I'll always be very proud to be the Tenth Doctor."

Russell T Davies, Executive Producer of Doctor Who, comments: ""I've been lucky and honoured to work with David over the past few years – and it's not over yet, the Tenth Doctor still has five spectacular hours left!

"After which, I might drop an anvil on his head. Or maybe a piano. A radioactive piano.

"But we're planning the most enormous and spectacular ending, so keep watching!"

David expands upon his decision in a taped interview which can be found at bbc.co.uk/doctorwho.

Doctor Who returns to our screens on BBC this Christmas. The Next Doctor starring David Tennant, David Morrissey and Dervla Kirwan will be screened on 25 December 2008 on BBC One. Discuss this announcent at the
